How to play Spades
Paper lanterns, a card table in the garden, and three friendly bots, one of them your partner. Standard partnership Spades, first team to 500 wins.

Pairs Across the Table
You sit at the bottom. Your partner sits across; Rosa and Theo are the opposing team. The first team to 500 points wins the match.

Bid First, Play Second
After the deal, each player bids how many of the 13 tricks they expect to take. Bidding 0 is a Nil. You promise to win none. Your team's contract is the sum of you and your partner's bids.

Spades Are Trump
Follow suit if you can. Spades beat any non-spade, but you can't lead a spade until they've been broken, meaning somebody has played one because they couldn't follow suit.

Make Your Bid
Make your contract: +10 per bid trick, +1 per overtrick (a bag). Miss it: â10 per bid trick. Every 10 bags = â100. A successful Nil = +100; a failed Nil = â100.
Four difficulty levels
Every level keeps its own streak, best and high score, so climbing costs you nothing.
- Easy
- The bots bid loosely and play half their cards at random. A friendly first match.
- Medium
- The bots count their tricks before bidding and follow standard play. Your partner pulls their weight.
- Hard
- Tighter bidding from the bots, and they'll consider a Nil when their hand is weak. They cover a partner's Nil too.
- Very Hard
- The opponents bid sharply, take Nils more often, and will ruff your winners without flinching.
Spades plays completely offline
Every round of Spades is generated, played and saved on your own device. There is no account, no sync and no server to reach, so it works the same on a plane, in a tunnel or with the phone in airplane mode.

How hard does Spades get?
There are four levels. Easy is "The bots bid loosely and play half their cards at random. A friendly first match." Very Hard is "The opponents bid sharply, take Nils more often, and will ruff your winners without flinching." Your streak, best and high score are tracked separately for each level, so moving up never costs you what you earned lower down.
